Couponing for the Homeless
Couponing for the homeless is a personal service project that I have started. I have a strong urge to help people and I have finally found a way to help those who really need it.
We've all heard of extreme couponing and some of us have even seen the stashes and hoards that some "extreme couponers" have. What are they going to do with all that? Probably nothing. It will probably sit there and expire, or they will resell it in a yard sale to make a profit, etc. Well, that's nice. What about the people who really need things like that? Stop thinking about yourself for a minute. I'm not going to go off on my tangent about how we all (myself included) take things in life for granted and how we should really think about those who are homeless and have nothing, but I'll leave it up to you to think about.
So I decided to start this service project and call it "Couponing for the Homeless". The ambitiousness in me is wanting this to eventually become a local non-profit organization instead of it just remaining a personal project. Maybe it will happen one day, who knows? But for now, I'm on my own and I'm couponing for the homeless!
I am clipping out the coupons every week for personal hygiene items (I buy multiple newspapers so I get more than one set of coupons) and going to the drug stores and getting the items as inexpensively as I can. Anything that I manage to snag for $1 or less gets donated to the homeless. Some things will get held on to and resold simply to make the money back that I've spent. No profit.
So this is just a background on the project and just a little bit of insight into why I'm starting this project. If you feel compelled to help in some way or another, I won't stop you, but I am not by any means asking you to :)
Thank you for reading,
Sarah
